When your Jacuzzi Pool Pump starts to make a loud noise like a squealing sound, a grinding noise or maybe it just hums and will not run. These are all common signs that the ball bearings inside of your electric pump motor have gone bad and need to be replaced by yourself if you are handy or with a mail in pump repair service if you looking for someone else to do it for you.
Motor bearings can last for many years or sometimes just one season. It all depends on the bearings used when they build the pump. Sometimes when you rebuild the pump it will last longer because the bearings that were used during the rebuild will be a better brand that the original manufactures.
Motor Bearings May Need To be Replaced
If you think the noise may not be the bearings but do hear a loud squealing sound inside of the pump volute it is also possible that the pumps impeller might have spun off the motor shaft. The impeller spinning off the motor shaft happens commonly when the pump has run dry. Sometimes the pool times will kick on and the water level in the pool will be to low for the pump to prime. This will result in the pump running dry. The water inside of the pump will start to steam up and then melt the impeller shaft.
If this happens the impeller could spin of the motor shaft and leave you with a large squealing sound every time you try and run your pool pump.
How To Repair Your Jacuzzi Splash Motor Bearings
If you are handy and feel you can change the motor bearings yourself you can do so but your going to need a few tools. Your going to need a bearing puller to remove the motor bearings from the motor’s armature. You will also need some basic hand tools and a socket set so you can talk all of the bolts out of the pump and motor. One of the most important things you will need is a way to push the bearings back on the shaft.
The best way to replace the bearings on the motors shaft is to use something called an arbor press. An arbor press will allow you to easily press the bearings on to the shaft. If you do not have an arbor press you can use a bearing press tool. This is not the best way to replace motor bearings but it will work if need be.

What you will want to do is find a piece of pipe that has an outer diameter that matches the inner diameter of the bearing you are trying to press on or replace. For example. If you were looking to replace a bearing you could use a 3/4″ piece of black pipe to press that bearing on if the outer diameter matched the inner diameter of the bearing race.
It is very important that you press or push the bearing onto the armature shaft by the inner race of the bearing. If you fail to press the bearing on by the inner race you will destroy the bearing for sure. Pressing the bearing on by the outer race will off center the ball bearings and then the bearing will go bad soon after you installed it.
You Might As Well Change The Mechanical Seal
If the motor bearings have gone and need to be replaced n your Jacuzzi Splash Pool pump then you will also want to change your mechanical pump seal while doing so. Ever so often many people change the motor bearings and then forget to change the mechanical pump seal. Not changing the mechanical pump seal while you’re changing the motor bearings could result in your pump seal leaking after you put the pump back together.
The mechanical pump seal in your jacuzzi Pool Pump is located inside of the wet end / volute of your pump. You will have to remove the motor housing to access the mechanical seal but you will be doing this anyway if you need to change out the motor bearings
